Monahan and Gaudreau have to be better. Period. Or the Flames aren't going anywhere.
However, better goaltending makes a HUGE difference. Not only do you have a chance to win every game, but team confidence grows and with it, team play.
The Flames are a better team now than they were before signing Markstrom. That is just not even debatable.
