It’s pretty clear to me that a lot of the “we’re still in on Brodie” talk was, which while not a lie because Brodie could have called them back, not a reflection of reality. They were focused on Markstrom, and Brodie left. It is also highly probable that Brodie’s Calgary price was significantly higher than his Toronto price. So Brodie v. Tanev is a false comparison. Assuming Brodie wasn’t coming here short of $6M or so, Treliving ended up with (a) the best goalie on the market and (b) the best defenceman under $5M.
