Telling in what sense? I think Barrie realizes that the upcoming season is a huge year for him to try and increase his value back up in the league after a tough season in Toronto, so a strong single season makes sense for him playing with Mcdavid on their top PP unit. It's a good risk to take rather than settle on a lower number after a bad year or a multiple year contract.
From an Oilers perspective, the player isn't what they need on D, but this is how they build teams up there.
