Tanev has worn #8 for most of his NHL career (he wore #18 as a rookie), but he also wore #43 and #12 when he played in the AHL. So, he might not be overly attached to the number -- although he has worn it for a long time now.
Valimaki is currently #8 but he also wore #6 in Junior and when he captained Finland at the WJHC. He is currently wearing #40 in Finland. #6 is currently not in use on the Flames.
There's also the question about Tkachuk and #7. It's his dad's old number and what he wore in junior, but I'd say he has made #19 his own at this point. Also, when he and Brady both make Team USA in the future, they won't have to fight over who gets to wear #7 if he keeps #19.
