The guy I worry about is Tanev who could become the Flames version of Loui Eriksson especially when you consider a flat cap for maybe the next 2 or 3 years.
Hughes elevated the play of Tanev, not to mention Luke Schenn who was paired with Hughes in his first season...
Actually I'd prefer Schenn over Tanev even before considering the contracts...
Pairing Tanev with a quick puck mover will be key otherwise he eats too many pucks which has led to too many injuries...

Everything you said just shows that you don’t know anything about Tanev.
He’s not Hamonic, he’s more Brodie than Hamonic. He is a great skater (but may have lost a step, but still good) and he makes great exits. He’s not a bang it off the glass type stay at home defenseman.
Not all defense first defensemen are skill less pylons. Tanev is a puck mover. He’s not likely to put up as much points as Brodie but he’s also stronger in his own end and stop cycles and also willing to lay down and block shots.
Like I said, if you take the best of Brodie and Hamonic and merge them together , you get Tanev.
