I would have liked a year less, but 4.5m is what top four d men make in today's NHL. Tanev is the 4th highest paid D man in the Flames after all.
I am not a fan of signing players over thirty, still the Flames D is very youthful, and atleast 1 rookie is going to be playing a lot of hockey.
Again the four years is what gets me. Still, with and expansion draft, and the brouwer/stone buyouts coming to an end soon, there is a way the Flames can pragmatically cut bait if need be.
I have mixed feelings. You can put me in the wait and see camp. If the Flames find playoff success I will be happy and that's the bottom line.
