Incorrect.
They have a #1 goaltender.
That means that for the first time in a decade, all the other stuff actually has a chance of mattering.
The offense needs a retool. Replacing Gaudreau with Hall and using Johnny to add a 1st next year and a prospect is a solid plan. At the very least, Hall has shown a little more zeal of post season play, whereas Gaudreau has spent every post season appearance after his first looking like he wanted to be anywhere else.
Worst case scenario if it doesn’t work with Hall, at least we’ll pick 1st overall once or twice.
Outside of Tanev, everyone on this blue line is a high skill positive possession player. They can’t all be like that. Those guys don’t like doing the things Tanev does.
The guy costs barely more than Hamonic, and for what his style of play is, there’s no reason to assume he can’t continue on at the average effectiveness of his last four years.
It’s fine.
