This is fair. You’re taking a slightly higher AAV hit and some term on Markstrom.
But more I think about it, you’re ahead on balance in terms of ability.
But now you’ve got to think about your injury risk on the back end with Tanev and Valimaki. I’m leaning toward thinking it’s a risk worth taking before paying for another veteran. You know Treliving will do another defenseman rental at the deadline anyway.
Bigger question is whether you have the forwards you can win with. That is what most people were focused on after the season and needing to shake up the core.
