To me, it is Old School Hockey Vs. New School Hockey.
From a New School Hockey perspective, Tanev's underlying numbers are bad and have been regressing. It looks awful from a numbers perspective.
From an Old School Hockey perspective, Tanev is s a warrior. He blocks shots, he's the ultimate teammate, and has a history of being good in his own zone.
How this deal plays out to me is the Eye Test Vs. Analytics all wrapped into one player and one contract.
Tanev's last two years:
CF%: 45.51
SF%: 45.94
GF%: 47.40
xGF%: 46.37
SCF%: 43.95
HDCF%: 46.52
HDGF%: 44.68
Those numbers are putrid.

I saw this movie when it wore number 36.
