I hope this deal turns the goalie position to a strength from a depth standpoint instead of a boat anchor contract. I personally would have signed a cheaper goalie and see if Rittich can take the next step with one more year under his belt.

Chris Osgood went to back to back finals at age 35 and 36 with the Red Wings and his worst save percentage was .926.
He has a blip in his career where he goes from the best team in the league to the early 2000s Islanders, who are awful. He’s not Hasek, so he looks awful.
He goes to St Louis, with Pronger and MacInnis, and he puts up .910 in 67 games.
Chris Osgood is a borderline Hall of Famer, and probably deserves to be in. They’re so stingy about the goalies who get in, it’s a joke.
