I don't like it. May be in the minority but signing 30 year old goalies coming off a career year with a .911 career save percentage for that much money doesn't make sense.
Goaltending is as important as it is fickle. You can win a cup with a hot goalie who then goes into oblivion the next season. Especially when he lost his starting job to a rookie in the playoffs.
Cam Talbot, who had a slightly better SP last year, will be the same age as Markstrom by the end of their respective contracts.
That's a big chunk of the salary cap, for a career year that equated to average goaltending. Are we hoping he gets better at the age of 30?
