This could work out really, and in time we will all call this a bargain contract.
Pigs can grow some wings, and one way we will see them flying through the sky.
Seriously, this is a terrible deal for a player who had an injury-plagued campaign of 1 goal and 3 assists in 26 games. One good season - ONE good season where he hit 47 points. I wanted Treliving to acquire him, but I thought the acquisition price was high (and I thought that Domi's value wasn't as high as some people have him at). If the cap had a substantial jump this year, it still wouldn't make sense, but in a flat cap pandemic shut-down world, it is just ugly.
I guess we will see. If he rebounds and produces all 7 years, this will be a bargain. That's just a big risk to take at this point, and Bergevin would have been better off mitigating the risk by signing him for 2-3 yr deal at 3-3.5, and then re-signing him for the difference for another 3 or 4 years. I think even at 3.5, that's pretty steep for a guy who never cracked 50 points, has only had a max of 20 goals once, and is coming off a 4 point injury plagued season.
