Honestly I'm of the mindset that you probably shouldn't overpay for a 30+ year old goalie under any circumstances.
Look at goalie signings that are 28 or older, signed for 5+ years, for $5M or more in the last decade.
Bobrovsky - Age 30 - 7 x $10M (Coming off seasons of .921 / .913 - put up a .900 last season)
Price - Age 29 - 8 x $10.5M (Coming off seasons of .934 / .923 - put up a .900 season)
Schneider - Age 28 - 7 x $6M (Was coming off seasons of .927 & .921, had a very good first two seasons of the contract with .925, .924 seasons, hasn't been above .908 since)
Lundqvist - Age 31 - 7 x $8.5M (Remained elite for the first 4 seasons of the contract, hasn't been as good the last two, now a buyout)
Crawford - Age 28 - 6 x $6M (Stayed above .915 for the whole contract but couldn't stay healthy the last three seasons)
Smith - Age 31 - 6 x $5.7 (Signed coming off a big .915 season, went to .904 the next season, ended up traded to Calgary with 2 seasons left)
Howard - Age 29 - 6 x $5.3M (Signed coming off .920 & .923 seasons, never had a season above .910 again)
Lehtonen - Age 28 - 5 x $5.9 (Signed coming off .921 & .916 seasons, had one good season and was a liability after that)
Which of those goalies actually provided good value for those contracts? Crawford for sure would have been worth it, and maybe Lundqvist but really none of the rest.
Also I'd say Markstrom is much closer to the Smith, Lehtonen, Howard end of the goalie scale than the others who had much longer and more consistent levels of success prior to the contracts.
Markstrom will likely be 31 by a month into this new contract. Has only been above average for 2 seasons in his career (the last two), but is on the wrong side of the aging curve.
