Which of course is still something that could happen, but unless you're ready to tack on the 8th year in your offer, why bother today when you could wait until tomorrow.

Even if a team is able to trade for his rights, they cannot offer him an 8th year on his contract. I believe he needs to be on the roster on the previous year's trade deadline to be eligible for the 8th year.
