So by the sounds of it Markstrom wants to stay in Vancouver with a NMC but what Vancouver wants is to have him for one more season at least and then, based on next season, have the flexibility to decide whether to protect him or Demko from Seattle.
On paper he's the best option for Calgary to add, because he's been very good the last few seasons on a below average team combined with the fact that they don't have to lose assets to acquire him.
