I said this in the last trade thread, but I don’t see what makes Markstrom that much more preferable to Holtby - I’m good if we end up with either, but Holtby is an absolute stud.

We can probably get Holtby on a shorter deal than Markstrom and limit some risk there. I don’t like goalies on long term deals like 5-7 years. Too many prove to eventually have a performance swing in the wrong direction after a couple/few years and then you’re in a bind with lots of $ at the goalie position.
If you can’t luck into a stud through the draft you really have to find the next guy on the upswing from another team, or squeeze a couple good years out of a vet to tide you over.
Not opposed to giving Talbot another 2 though since team is still 2-3 years min from going deep and by that point you want your #1 to be peaking. Markstrom is peaking now.
