I think racism plays a role in certain players’ “attitude” problems, but I also think a large part may be because they got a chip on their shoulder from treatment in junior or the minors (like Alieu). About 20 years ago there were big revelations about hazing in junior, and I’d bet that a minority player would get it worse in many cases.
