When Bennett was a 20-21 year old learning how to play center in the NHL he was forced to carry around bad players that are a drag on their teammates.
What evidence is there that Bennett takes more penalties when playing center? I think penalties are always going to be apart of Bennett's game- for better or for worse. He plays on the edge and is also prone to some bad penalties. It doesn't matter what position he is playing.
Bennet himself has said that he able to be more of a factor at center because he is most comfortable playing there. He has the awareness, skating ability, and battle level to be a good 2 way center.

People talk about his "dragging and carrying" his linemates, yet one of the names they mention in Jankowski, out-produced him! It's a garbage excuse by people making excuse for a mediocre player
