Hoffman is has always been considered skilled, fast, sniper. While Neal and Brouwer were considered power forwards, which is why they broke down so quickly. THe only contact Hoffman takes is for scoring goals.

The only thing he has in common with Brouwer is they both played in Florida.
I wasn't comparing them stylistically. Just in the sense that Hoffman is soon to be overpaid contract that we will be looking to dump.

Hoffman is the type of player that will score plenty of goals when put in the right situation without actually helping the team much. He will be 31 by the time the season begins and will likely command over 6 million per year.

He is great on the powerplay, but at 5 on 5 he is a major liability. The opposing teams earns 55% of the goals and expected goals when he is on the ice. He isn't going to be getting any better and his value has already dropped in three straight seasons.

Once his scoring dries up (already heavily driven by PP time) there isn't much of a player left there. Looking at how past players have aged I'm not confident his scoring prowess will be there for much longer.

If you want a 6 million dollar powerplay specialist he is your guy, but I think the Flames would be much better suited spending that money elsewhere.
