You kind of have to focus on your strengths. The Flames "competitive advantage" is developing defensemen so if there's a good defenseman project available, you almost have to take him over a similar forward or goalie because your organization is more likely to maximize the defenseman.
Flames just have to make sure to turn those defensemen into forwards and goalies.

I don’t want this to come off as anything personal as you are correct in our development of d. But Nashville has also been very good at developing defensemen, but have sucked at developing forwards and using their depth at d in Trades attempting to Patch up their F ranks. First round needs to be all about high end skill, preferably at F. Good D can be found in second round and given that d is hard to gauge in 18 year olds, would much rather we go for a high end F which this draft is deep in. Have to make the first round count and given the strength in F for this draft, would be disappointed if we pick a d with our first.
