Flames are definitely lacking in high end skill forwards and it will be difficult to see them pass on any for a defenseman, but the reality is that this regime has been really really good at developing defensemen.
You kind of have to focus on your strengths. The Flames "competitive advantage" is developing defensemen so if there's a good defenseman project available, you almost have to take him over a similar forward or goalie because your organization is more likely to maximize the defenseman.
Flames just have to make sure to turn those defensemen into forwards and goalies.
