It also ignores the fact that in 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020, the starting goalie for the team that lost the Cup Final was acquired either by trade or FA signing. Unless you believe that drafting a goalie gives him some magical powers, any of those Cups could have easily been won by the other side and the narrative would be ruined.
Also, for the 15 Cups between 1990 and 2004, only 6 were won by a goalie who was drafted by the winning team and 3 of those were won by Brodeur. One was won by a drafted goalie who later went on to win 2 more as a traded goalie.
It's an interesting bit of trivia. It's not a team-building strategy.
