I saw something last week where the Contract structure could look quite different for a guy like Pietrangelo in that the lowest paid years could be the first few years when escrow is expected to be higher, and higher salaries that are mostly bonus money at the backend to make it buyout proof
The flat cap is not going to result in the league rolling back contract numbers by 20% type of thing. The reported value of Contracts will likely be similar to the past 3 seasons in terms of the numbers. So for guys like Pietrangelo and Hall, their best bet is to sign a longer term deal because the next 3 seasons are the ones that teams will want out of them, and they'll likely be willing to put money in deals later on to get them for these seasons.
