There are very few countries that routinely see parties that continue to run 65+ year old candidates because they are simply out of touch and lack any relatability. Most G20 countries are moving to younger, more inspiring leadership as is evidenced by the nearly 55 year old leadership age average of these nations.

When the dust settles, a younger candidate may not be superior to an older one, but at least there's a better chance they will appeal to the younger voters and avoid scenarios where you have two duds going at it like they were last night over the leadership of one of the most influential countries in the world.
If younger voters actually voted in larger numbers they might run a different candidate. They ran the guy who polled best vs. Trump. /
