Prior to the period quoted, there were traded goalies that won the cup. And guess what, there will be in the future as well.
It is human nature to see patterns - even when patterns don't exist. One of the consequences of this human trait is that we are quick to draw conclusions from data that are unwarranted.

I don't think anyone's said it's impossible. My conclusion would be that it's a move in the wrong direction and not a great way to spend key assets or precious cap space.
The career path of the goalie probably isn't the thing that matters. More likely it's an indicator of teams who are patient, scout/draft/develop well, and don't waste many assets chasing short-term gains until they are actually built to contend.
