Wouldn't be surprised. Also wouldn't be surprised to see a "blended contract" where the player has set NHL and AHL salaries but also has a guaranteed minimum salary.
For instance, he might be set to earn $700k in the NHL and $200k in the AHL. Those salaries are calculated daily, so every day the player is in the NHL, he earns money at the $700k rate, and every day he's in the AHL, he earns money at the $200k rate.
Blended contracts allow for a minimum total salary that's higher than the AHL salary a player would earn if he stays in the minors for a whole season. For instance, if a player has a minimum guaranteed salary of $300k on a $700k/$200k contract, and the player isn't on the NHL roster for enough days to bank a cumulative total salary of at least $300k, he gets paid out the difference at the end of the season.
