If that is his starting point, you would have to think he knows it won't be the final number after negotiations.
Then again, some teams may be willing to drive the Brinks truck up to his house. In most years, I would say it was certain, but with the COVID thing going on, it's quite possible this is a poker game that free agents do not want to play.
Personally, I think one strategy for free agents would be to take a discount over a long contract, but get as much money as possible up front in signing bonuses. That way, they can at least maximize the investment potential right now.
Of course, that would require an owner that is willing to fork out money under these circumstances.
