I am watching on delay, and just watched that mess. I knew I was risking things by posting in this thread.

Hatch comes in and immediately loads the bases. Then Harper swings at ball 4 in the dirt, to strike out.

Then, as you say, Hatch gets the double play ball, but deflects it and bedlam ensues. Why do pitchers constantly do this?
