I can definitely see where Blaster is coming from.
I get that Hanifin is only 23, but he’s also played 5 seasons at the NHL level and hasn’t shown the type of impact ability that rookies Makar and Hughes have shown. Even fellow 2015 draftees Provorov, Werenski and Chabot have surpassed Hanifin in development.
I’m not going to say Hanifin will never get there. But personally, based on what I’ve seen, his play has been pretty unexceptional on both ends. So I’d be in favor of moving him now while he’s still young enough to command a bevy of assets. Although a lateral trade for a quality forward would suffice.
