Markstrom has only had one pretty good season in his career.
With three years of a flat cap, a contract like this could be, and very likely would be, beyond disastrous. He would be 34 years old in the middle of the contract.

If youre gonna sign a goalie to an overpay you better hold on to your picks because you'll be picking high a lot of years in a row if the goalies play craters over the term. I'd rather overpay for a goalie and keep my picks as insurance. I think its called hedging bets.
Conversely if you overpay in trade with picks to acquire a goalie and he craters....well you lost twice.
