I can't comment on Calgary, but I was in Lethbridge and drove through the Okanagan in 2003, and that was way worse than what is going on in Vancouver right now.
I also used to live in Northern Ontario where there were always season fires, and it would get worse there. Was even in a community that needed to be evacuated before by boat because the roads were cutoff.
Having said that, it is bad enough in the Lower Mainland to be uncomfortable for sure. My sinuses and throat were pretty scratchy when I woke up today, and my eyes have been pretty itchy from the smoke. Definitely not the worst I have experienced though.
