Default New Teams to consider part 2

Here's the second group of 3 teams added today to suggest trades with.

I am calling this group the:

WE ARE IN OUR WINDOW SO GIVE US YOUR BEST PLAYER FOR NEXT TO NOTHING PLEASE

They are:

=================================================

Carolina

FACTS:

Approximately 660 km from family home

17 NHL players signed for 2020-21. A few on the CapFriendly list are borderline

Makes up a cap hit of $73,717,739 so cap space of $7,782,261

Significant UFAs - JWilliams (probably retires?), TvanRiemsdyk, SVatanen, AForsberg

Significant RFAs - WFoegele, HFleury,

$5.0 million+ contracts - Aho (8.454) JStaal (6.0), Teräväinen (5.4) Niederreiter (5.25), DHamilton (5.75), Slavin (5.3), Skjei (5.25)

ISSUES/OPINION

They have some of the better value for money contracts in the league. Such as Slavin. Trocheck (4.75) and especially Pesce (4 more years at 4.025!)

Just a wonderful group of defenseman with Jake Bean on the way. They lose Edmundson and probably Vatanen for almost nothing this summer and barely blink an eye.

Is their goaltending good enough? Sometimes it is and sometimes it seems inadequate.

Don’t seem to have any forward prospects close other than Morgan Geekie as Necas and especially Svechnikov are already established

One of the teams rumoured (unsubstantiated) to be on a below-the-cap budget this year

Columbus

FACTS:

Approximately 785 km from family home

The CapFriendly roster for 2020-21 is a little off, listing Texier, Foudy and Bemström as AHLers which seems unlikely and Matteau and Peeke as NHLers which is also unlikely (though Peeke is close).

Recalculating then to say they have 21 NHL players signed for 2020-21.

With a cap hit of $69 700 000 so cap space of $11,800,000 once you put Dubunsky on LTIR

Significant UFAs- none. Seriously. They only have 2 UFAs in their entire organization, both of whom are bottom 4 AHL defenseman.

Significant RFAs - Dubois, JAnderson, VGavrikov, D Shore, K Stenlund

$5.0 million+ contracts - Atkinson (5.875), Foligno (5.5), Nyquist (5.5) Jones (5.4) and Dubinsky (5.85)

Not a single contract over $6 million. Wow!

ISSUES/OPINION

Are they in their window? You could argue “no” but they beat Tampa and Toronto in playoff situations the last two years and have a mostly young core so I think they are.

The Josh Anderson situation has some complexity but it is hard to believe they won't get something useful out of it one way or another.

That 21 NHLers number becomes 26 when you add the RFAs. Let’s take a moment to give Kekalainen some applause.

Dubois will probably crack the $6.0 barrier (and Jones and Werenski soon after) but it’s a great time to get a #1 Cte signed to an 8-year deal. Flat-cap discount time.

If they sign Gavrikov (likely) that's 8 defenseman under 30 with more than 2300 regular season games (Kukan 77 and Gavrikov 69 the only ones under 200).

They added Mikhail Grigorenko from the KHL for a cheap 1-year deal. He definitely has potential to do what Nichushkin did for Colorado this year as far as secondary scoring and special teams play

Two good goalies and 2-3 well-thought of goalie prospects

If you do count Stenlund, Texier, Foudy and Bemström graduated then the prospect pool is quite thin behind Peeke

=================================================

Toronto

FACTS:

Approximately 800 km from family home

18 NHL players signed for 2020-21.

Makes up a cap hit of $75,393,533, so cap space of $6,106,467

Significant UFAs- TBarrie, CCeci, KClifford, JSpezza

Significant RFAs - IMikheyev, ERodriques, DMalgin, FGauthier, JBracco?

$5.0 million+ contracts - Tavares (11.0), Matthews (11.63), Marner (10.89) Nylander (6.96), Muzzin (5.625), Reilly (5.0), Anderssen (5.0)

ISSUES/OPINION

Most top-heavy salary structure in the league and may be the team most restricted by the unexpected flat cap

Only have two defensemen signed who would be considered average or better.

Therefore fairly dependent on two of Sandin, Liljegren and Dermott to take a big step in 2020-21

Is Kyle Dubas the smartest guy in the room after all? How hot is his seat?

Have piles of money which allows them to make moves that most other teams can’t.

Prospect pool is middle of the pack with some good possibilities like Ian Scott(G), Filip Hållander(Cte) and others

Highest ratio of dickheads in fan base by a wide margin despite efforts by Oiler fans in the last few years.
