Ward did an admirable job of stepping in to an unstable situation. I'll give him that.
But you have a hockey team..they've been rebuilding for several years, and need to take the next step to becoming a contender and going deeper in the playoffs. Under this stabilizing "interim" move, they crash out of the playoffs again in spectacular fashion. Now you've got a chance to hire a new coach, who are you selecting? I doubt any of you are jumping at the assistant of the last guy. This is not a first choice type of hire.
This is a "it went okay enough, kind of, until the end, let's see what happens again" type move. Flames need some impact moves in all areas.
