In 4 years time he will still have a cap hit of $8.25 million with a NMC.
And 4 years is a really long time in the hockey world. The problem is willingly helping out a financial distressed franchise, without a GM, when the league is absolutely going to start seeing teams fold soon.
It makes no sense on the ice or off the ice.
