I think I heard this story on the Hacks on Tap podcast, but the apparent reasoning for Trump talking to Woodward was that Trump's staff
didn't let him talk to Woodward for his 2018 book (
Fear: Trump in the Whitehouse).
When that book came out and was highly critical of Trump, the President was furious as he felt that, with his direct involvement, the book would be much more glowing. Trump, as usual, believes the solution to any problem is more Trump, so he sat down for lengthy interviews with Woodward, 18 in total I think, including several his staff had no idea were happening until they were already done.
There's going to be so much more in that book and on those tapes and I don't believe any of it will have an impact on his supporters.
Trump supporters are not good people.
