My point is that they're pre-loading a narrative in for disappointing sales.
Nintendo can come out and say they're not competing with Sony and MS because they release underpowered hardware with wild gimmicks in off-years on their own schedule. You can't come out and say "we're not competing with Sony" and then release an expensive, obvious direct competitor at the same time.
