I think you have this backwards.
Due to the Sabres positional needs (2nd line C over a LW) and contract term and value the Flames would get more from the Sabres for SM than they would for JG.
If the Flames are going to retool and take a sideways step, or backwards, the deal is Cozens and Montour for Monahan IMO
On another note, no way do the Sabres give up two assets like Cozens
and a top 10 pick for two years of JG. If that backfires and JG walks (entirely possible given that it is Buffalo) you’ve set you org back by half a decade at least. Add in a RHS D as well? Nonsense.
