I want to thank everyone who was in on the Hertl trade talks. It was fun and a welcome distraction over the last day or so. I was almost at a flip a coin stage over two proposals, and an 11th hour option arrived in the form of a player that I coveted, and a couple of decent prospects.
I plan to trade at a rate of about one player for every ten that Scorp trades, so there will be opportunities to revisit potential trades down the line.
To Minnesota
Tomas Hertl
3.1M for 2021
To Los Angeles
Luke Kunin
Dominik Bokk
Cale Addison
My reasoning for taking this trade was where the players involved are in their respective careers. Kunin (70OVR) is set to be a fixture in Minnesota's top 9 for a goodly long time. He's an 'all around' good player, with decent stats across the board. At 22 years old, he has a bright future.
Dom Bokk is a pure goalscorer, but there's nothing wrong with that. He fits into the style of play in Carolina like a glove.
Cale Addison is an offensive defenseman, and has been a PP QB at every level. He was a point per game player as a defensman in junior, but is slightly undersized at 5'10. Like Kunin, he is part of the Minnesota rebuild.
So, by moving Hertl, I move potential for my team from success this year to greater success in next season, which has been my strategy from the beginning. I have also maintained a concentration on DEF rating for this season, and we will see what the SIM does with that.
I agreed to move the cash this year, as it matches what I will have to pay next year for Kunin's RFA tag. That still fits within the parametres of my strategy, so it didn't hurt me to do it.
