re: Kevlar, I don't fully know the answer of why it's not done but all of us have used the kevlar neck guards, and at times it can be a bit itchy and hot. I don't know if that's the kevlar itself, a chemical reaction, or just the fact that something is around your neck, but I imagine breathing isn't the problem but the way water would whisk or lack of whisking away. With respect to the neck guard I don't recall the thing getting wet. If socks soak up the sweat and evaporate the sweat, while kevlar would just let it go to your feet, I'm not sure that would be the most pleasant feel. That could be it.
