Thanks in advance. Easier to be patient through the TCH jams in that area when it's clear what the reason is. The last time I drove it eastbound traffic was moderate and flowing at about 100kph, and as I was cresting the hill here ( https://goo.gl/maps/UnWwyLn4dYpvDiMF6 ) I was lucky not to get rear-ended as the traffic just over the hill was at a standstill due to the jams and all the cars entering the jam had to brake hard.

Part of the project involves widening the TCH to six lanes (3 each direction) as far as Old Banff Coach Road. And it seems it's a major rebuild at the same time rather than just adding one lane each direction. IIRC the road will be temporarily shifted south while the rebuild occurs before shifting back to the original alignment which is why there seems to be a lot of earthwork along the south side of the highway.
