JVR's contract is a huge anchor. If it's being included in a trade for one of the players who is significantly overperforming his contract in the league (Johnny) then they are going to need to add a mountain.

JVR+Myers+Frost+Patrick+ two 1sts

That's the type of overpay required to get Johnny AND dump that horrendous contract.
You just out edged his edginess. Myers, Frost, Patrick, and two 1sts just for the Flames to eat JVR's contract is a massive overpay by Philadephia. Get used to the idea of the Flames eating some bad contract or the return for Gaudreau is going to take a big hit. I would say that a reasonable return for Gaudreau would be top prospect, a young solid player with upside, and a 1st. Beyond that is an over pay. So I think that something along the lines of Frost, Myers, and a 1st was quite reasonable, but Myers' play in the post season has pushed him into a new level with the Flyers. His inclusion makes the deal that much tougher to believe is possible. So it would have to be something along the lines of Frost, Gostisbehere, and a 1st, with the Flames adding a balancing contract if needed.

Once you add in the salary dump contract then things change. I think that if you include a JVR or a Voracek to dump a salary and balancing out the contracts, then you can make the argument of the inclusion of a more valuable asset. So then Frost, Myers, JVR or Voracek, and a 1st for Gaudreau and a balancing contract seems very reasonable. Patrick and the extra 1st is unlikely and would result in a dial tone in Treliving's ear.
