He got paid for potential, and he's not achieved those lofty heights yet. Unless he has a couple of really good years, and does something in the playoffs, he's at his optimum salary right now. If he feels otherwise he can ask for a trade and find out on another team that his "intangibles" aren't worth that much in a salary capped market.

If Tkachuk was a UFA this summer he gets 8.5M plus on the open market. So 10M in a few years is not far off.
