The problem is that I think in order to acquire a #1C that drives as needed, Gaudreau is the piece you can possibly dangle to acquire one. Tkachuk would be an option as well, but that seems like a move to avoid making if possible. However, trading Gaudreau in order to acquire a #1C while signing Hall would certainly lessen that blow IMO.
Regardless, I think acquiring a #1C should be the priority for the franchise (outside of hiring one of Gallant, Laviolette, or Boudreau). If Florida would possibly move Barkov, you jump all over that. If Buffalo would possible entertain moving Eichel, you do basically whatever it takes.
Grabbing Ottawa's #3 to take Byfield would be pretty wild as well. But surely the trade starts and stops with Matthew Tkachuk.
