I would not support Gio being stripped of the C at all, but I do think it's likely time to pass the mantle. Gio has been a great following act to Iginla as captain. He's been a clutch player and a model team and community member with great character. Another tough act to follow. For it to be Tkachuk's, he needs to make it clear that he's now the leader of the team and force the issue through his demonstrated leadership. I think he's pretty close on that if not quite there yet.

Whoever comes next, they better bring a competitive fire to win along with their other leadership traits.

As a side note, in the history of the Flames captaincy there has only been one season with a non-Canadian captain, and that was Conroy. Every other captain has always been Canadian. If it's Tkachuk, he would likely become the first long-serving non-Canadian captain of the Flames.
