Your goalie position should cost you somewhere around 10M a season if you want to compete. I wouldn’t really spend $4M on Talbot, but $3-3.5M? Yeah I’m cool with it. The cost of winning.
These are quite possibly the worst examples for justifying why you should spend $10M+ on a tandem.

Colorado and Tampa are two of the best teams right now, both spend less than $5M on their tandem. Tampa is going to have a much harder time competing when Vas’s extension kicks in.

There’s no rule about what you need to spend to be competitive, but spending low helps more than spending high, especially in the above examples where the highest paid guy in the tandem isn’t even the starter.
