Valimaki, Kylington, Yelesin, and Mackey have a combined 18 points in in 115 NHL games. They would make up 4 of the 7 spots.
Is there room for development? Yes. Is it a disaster? No.
But it would be quite the gamble. And this is WITH Gio in the lineup. Brodie brings quite a bit of stability to the defense core.
It is essential that the Flames hire a coach with a proven record of defense utilization. Someone who has been shown to develop players on the defensive end.
The Flames often underperform when their defense looks good on paper. They often overperform when the lineup looks too young.
A lot of this comes down to coaching IMO.
