I have never wanted Frost as a piece in a Gaudreau deal and this makes me want him even less. I do think if he plays 5 games he needs to be protected. Same draft year as Valimaki both have played less than 25 games.
The expansion draft makes it tough for the Flames to do a Gaudreau for depth trade. A Gaudreau for depth trade only makes sense if the Flames can sign Hall to replace Gaudreau and his role.
Looking at expansion today up front you have
1. Tkachuk
2. Lindholm
3. Monahan
4. Dube
5. Mangipane
6. Gaudreau
7. Bennett
Assumes Lucic waives his NMC. If Hall replaces Gaudreau then the team would not want to add another forward that requires protecting as the main piece coming back. I think New Jersey and Buffalo make the most sense with the 7th or 8th pick as one of the key pieces coming back.
