I didn't say this was the end of his career after this season. Must be the beta in you coming out (and your beta support group).
If all he has is a bottom 6 role in him, he'd probably only have 2-3 more years in the tank - replaced by a younger, faster bottom 6 NHLer - just ask Joe Colborne.
I could comfortably say Bennett has at least 5 additional if not 8 years in him. He's a role player for sure, one of those guys who'll go through a wall for his team come playoffs. Hopefully he'll have more confidence, support, and opportunity in the regular season.
One thing you guys aren't talking about is how Bennett WAS put on a line with Gaudreau-Monahan and with Tkachuk-Backlund. For whatever reason, it didn't click back then. Given how public Gaudreau is about liking Monahan, I could see him being the type of player who doesn't play as hard unless he's with his favorite pairing. It's a legit argument considering how many players they didn't click with like Jagr, Neal, Bennett.
I'd keep Bennett at center next year with his current line, then try to package him with Lucic in a trade.
