There is no debate any more.
Neal was a cancer and the team had to get rid of him. The price for that was taking dead cap space back in the form of Lucic. Lucic's value as a player at the time was zero and the cost of moving Neal was eating Looch's salary.
But now, Lucic is contributing as a 3rd liner and as a leader. Suddenly, the trade is a useful player, plus some cap space, plus a 3rd for a cancer.
And the cap space pays for Reider.
