I finished reading Ken Dryden’s new book on Scotty Bowman. One of the many take home points made in it about hockey, and the modern game is that the game is no longer dominated or controlled by the center position.

The defense position has become more critical to team success. There are outliers like the Penguins a few years back, but they still had a serviceable puck moving defense, though not elite.

But this is all irrelevant to the out of touch Oilers. They’re mystified at their failure with some elite forward talent.

It isn’t the 80’s, 90’s, or even the 2000’s anymore. Plus drafting an elite defense is much harder using the Hockey New top prospects guide, especially when their development is trash.
